Xmas and all that

The Root of Thought: Unlocking Glia-the Brain Cell That Will Help Us Sharpen Our Wits, Heal Injury, and Treat Brain DiseaseI have been out of the area for most of Christmas, so what with that and bad weather not had a chance to visit the club. But had little contact from anyone so assuming no news is good news. Tomorrow night is bingo at the club - a good event for the long winter - surprising how many unters we get. Every little helps. So, I am hoping, will catch up with friends and celebrate the Ashes win and who knows maybe a full house!

It will be last visit of 2010 - off for a bit of skiing in the New Year. Always worry about an injury - especially at my age!

So all the best to everyone for 2011 - at least cricket seems a bit nearer

New Years Eve

The bar extension has arrived - arrangements made - all set for the big night. The club will open over xmas but with the weather as it is we must not have too high expectations that trade will be good.

Other things - I have to order new carpets for the changing rooms - an insurance claim following a burst pipe. Not difficult - bit ofwork to organise time etc. Still will go towards improving general facilities. The club has major development plans over the next few years. More about the facilities than the cricket but onwards and upwards.

Merry Christmas to all readers

The Cold Snap

We lose the test match and the West Midlands, like the rest of the UK is covered in snow and ice - it is freezing. Tried to call into the Club on the way back from gym (trying to get fit for next season) but the drive was impassable. Could not get my car past the gates. There was footprints in the snow but I could not face the walk. And that beer would have tasted so good!

Still essential we keep things ticking over. But it is worrying time. The infrastructure is oldish so always the risk of freezing pipes. The ground looked fantastic with its covering of snow but it seems getting out there again for what it is intended for is a long way off. These really are the dark nights.

Merry Xmas every one

The cold mid winter

As it nears Xmas and on a long and cold journey from Newcastle to the midlands - cricket does not seem very near. But I loved hearing Tuffers and co on the radio discussing play at the WACA. Come on England - cricket is in much better shape than football - is that because of the organisation and commitment at grass roots level?

I have not been up to the club this week - but a lot of important business is done through the winter. Playing on the park is months away but Xmas is very important time for fund raising and bar sales. Will it be the usual people or will see those lads who dissappear in September and re-appear in April?

Still getting ready for Xmas

In house tournaments progressing - pool, darts, chess, dominoes - it gets people into the Club when the nights are cold and dark. Big entry this year - finals over Xmas.

Had to remember bar extensions (Temporary Events Notice they are called now) - for New Years Eve. Gotitinto Council just in time. More regulations. Every aspect of a cricket club seems covered by regulations nowadays. Health and Safety, Cricket Mark, Licensing, Performing Rights - nee I go on. And it all costs. So what do we have to do - you got it - tap into our members who already provide fantastic support.

I have drafted a major plan for refurbisment projects. We will tick them off eventually - but Rome not built in a day. And as Brian Clough said "I wasn't on that job"

Getting ready for Xmas

Well not much thought of cricket going on at themoment. Except the ashes and wondering how England will do. The good money says they will win. But quite a lot happening at the Club over the next few weeks. I daresay it will be the usual few who support everyhing
