AGM at Madeley

Well it is the agm at Madeley Cricket Club tomorrow. End of a great year - league champions of Shropshire and the club going from strength to strength. I am nominated again so fingers crossed I will still have the job tomorrow evening - it is a labour of love really.

At the agm I give a review of the year - much easier when it has been a good year. I always think about the membership.Every club seems to have the same mixtures of characters. The following list - is not definitivee but I think generally reflects the different traits:

  • The good member - turns up for practise, turns up on time for matches, has a beer after the game and will help out but when asked
  • The moaner - always moaning and never doing, is happy moaning, but also unreliable - is likely to be the one who misses nets or cries off from a match at the last minute or even worse simply doesn't turn up) and it is always someone elses fault the worst member
  • The empty vessel - makes a lot of noise about how much they do - which is more often than not - very little. They will be in attendance for work parties but do little more than empty the wheel barrow once or open the lid of the paint tin and generally tell people what to do - getting up theirs noses as they do
  • The silent wonder - does loads, never moans, never tells how much they done, never worries what others have done, never needs ego massaging - the best members
  • The late payer - always a pain - always the last to pay membership and always backward in coming forward with tea money. Often, but not always, in the moaner category
Do you recognise them, do you have similar at your club?

I will post details of agm tomorrow.
